Kingsford girls golf ties for second at first GNC match

MENOMINEE — The Kingsford boys and girls golf teams kicked off the first of five nine hole Great Northern U.P. Conference matches of the season on Thursday in Menominee. The girls competed on the front nine at Riverside Country Club while the boys were on the back nine.

On the girls side of the competition, Marquette won with a 210 overall score on the front nine. The Flivvers squad ended the competition in a tie for second with Escanaba at 211. Menominee was fourth at 226 with Gladstone’s 285 bringing up the rear.

Escanaba’s Kamrie Scott posted the low score of the day at 45 for first place.

Kingsford’s Bryonna Saunders and Grace Maki finished tied for third at 49. Maddy Zeuske was eight with a score of 54. Ella Rizzo came in with a 59 to finish 15th overall and close out the Flivvers scoring.

In the boys competition, Kingsford ended the day with a 192 overall score on the back nine. Marquette was first at 156 while Escanaba’s 166 was good enough for second. Menominee ended the day in third at 174. While Gladstone was fourth at 180.

Kingsford’s Owen Olkkonen shot a 44 and finished in a three-way tie for 12th overall. He was the Flivvers only placer. Lance Harry (48), Nick Doran (49), Jonah Nelson (51) and Owen Edwards (62) also competed for Kingsford.

The Flivvers head to Gladstone on Monday for another GNC contest.
