IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain senior Alex Wilson signed his National Letter of Intent to wrestle for the Muskies at Division III Lakeland University in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Wilson plans to major in business and marketing.

Wilson has been wrestling since the age of five. During his time wrestling at IMHS, he was a three-time qualifier in multiple weight brackets at the MHSAA Individual State Finals, two years of which were on the podium. He is also a three-time wrestling U.P. Champion in multiple weight classes.

During his time as a Mountaineer, Wilson participated in tennis, travel soccer, varsity boys soccer, YAC, Varsity Club, Key Club and National Honor Society. Wilson received high honors all four years of high school, and was awarded Individual Academic All-State honors as well. He will continue staying busy, as he is hoping to play soccer for Lakeland beginning his sophomore year in addition to wrestling.

He had multiple schools reach out, but Lakeland has a very “positive coach” and the college “felt like home,” Wilson said.

During his senior year, Wilson finished in seventh place in the 120-pound division at the Division 4 MHSAA individual state finals in 2024. Wilson took down Devin Doorlag of Gobles in a 7-4 decision. That was Wilson’s second time placing at the state tournament.

Following the season, Wilson was named to the Michigan Grappler Division 4 All-Senior team, alongside teammate Fulton Stroud.
