Flivver boys, FP girls win Kingsford Invite
KINGSFORD — The Kingsford Flivvers boys ran away with the boys team title, while the Forest Park Lady Trojans edged the Flivvers in the girls competition at the Kingsford Invitational on Monday.
In the boys event, the Flivvers posted five individual and three relay wins to roll up 159 points. Florence-Niagara finished second with 97, Iron Mountain took third with 88, Forest Park placed fourth with 86, West Iron County wound up fifth with 32 and North Dickinson was sixth with 20.
Sid and Jack Olson as well as Blake Tomasoski led the way for Kingsford with two individual wins each. Sid won the 110 hurdles (16.91) and the 300 hurdles (43.94), while Jack captured the 100 (11.39) and the 200 (23.81).
Tomasoski topped the field in both distance runs, winning the 1,600 in 4:58.07 and the 3,200 in 10:53.02.
Mason Tappy scored a victory in the shot put (44-10) for the Flivvers, who also were victorious in the 400, 800 and 3,200 relays.
Florence-Niagara recorded three wins on the day. Luke Deterville captured the 400 (53.76) and Christian Anderson finished ahead of the field in the 800 (2:07.21). The co-op also won the 1,600 relay.
Two seniors and a sophomore picked up wins for Forest Park. Seniors Gabe Quevedo (9 feet in the pole vault) and Kevin Giuliani (132-5.25) were victorious as was sophomore Vic Giuliani (6 feet, 2 inches in the high jump.)
Senior Aidan Ellis led the Mountaineers with a triumph in the long jump (19-7.5).
Tanner Nordstrom led West Iron’s results with a second in the discus 110-0.25)
Rickey Haney (109-2 in the discus) and Toby Fleming (2:21.96 in the 800) paced North Dickinson with third-place finishes.
In the girls competition, Forest Park’s depth proved decisive in its title-winning effort. The Lady Trojans scored three wins, five seconds, three thirds, six fourths and five fifths to amass 124 points. The Flivvers were a close second with 116, while Florence-Niagara placed third with 104.
North Dickinson (76), West Iron (61) and Iron Mountain (35) filled out the field.
Forest Park’s wins came from Vienna Price (2:34.82 in the 800), Ella Gasperich (88-31.2 in the discus) and Ava Fischer (7-6 in the pole vault).
The Flivvers were led by Maddy Kreider (first in the 100 with a 13.51), Mylee Kreider (first in the long jump with a 15-1.5 ) and Maria Murvich (first in the 1,600 with a 5:48.69 in the 1,600).
Kingsford’s 400 relay team also scored a win.
Florence-Niagara senior Kamdan Johnson won both hurdles races, capturing the 100 in 15.62 seconds and the 300 in 48.22 seconds.
Marley Jones contributed a victory in the 400 (1:05.08), while the team also claimed the 800 and 1,600 relays.
For the Nordics, Aunika Lindholm (14:09 in the 3,200), Lauren Jungwirth (28-8 in the shot put) and Aubrey Applekamp. (4-8 in the high jump) posted wins.
The Mountaineers received their individual title from senior Bella Pickett, who topped the field in the 200 meters (27.9).
West Iron’s top performers were Bristol Shamion (second in the high jump) and its 1,600 relay squad.
