FP girls earn Skyline win, Williams reaches 1,000
The Forest Park Lady Trojans held visiting Superior Central to just 10 points in the first half on their way to a 45-24 Skyline Central Conference victory Thursday at Eddie Chambers Gymnasium as senior Elsie Williams reached 1,000 career points.
The Trojans (3-1) took an 18-8 lead after one period and then built a 21-point advantage by halftime, already scoring as many points as they would need to against the Cougars (0-3) who are averaging just 18 points per game.
The second half was a 14-14 standoff, but Forest Park had its third consecutive win well in hand.
“We had some girls out this week with illness and injuries so it was good to see that we could work through that tonight,” said Forest Park coach Kim Bjork. “We were able to change things up defensively. We passed well and were able to get some open looks.
“Congrats to Elsie!” she said.
Williams and Vienna Price scored 10 points each to lead the Trojans, while Evie Anderson and Rylee Johnson contributed seven apiece.
Tessa Bartoszek finished with six and Lily Sarder chipped in with five.
Johnson led FP in rebounds with six and Anderson added five. Price topped the Trojans in assists with four.
Forest Park’s scheduled home game against Carney-Nadeau Friday night was postponed. The Trojans are off until Monday, Dec. 29, when they play Wakefield-Marenisco (4-1) as part of the Michigan Tech Showcase in Houghton.
