Esky’s Peacock blanks Flivvers
ESCANABA — A fourth-inning meltdown kept Kingsford winless on the season Wednesday afternoon at Al Ness Field, as Escanaba rolled to an 11-0 victory in five innings.
The game was scoreless through the first three innings, but it went off the rails for the Flivvers in the fourth. Seven walks, three hit batsmen and two errors allowed the Eskymos to send 17 hitters to the plate and score all 11 runs.
Kingsford junior Jonah Doenier clubbed a pair of doubles, and junior Jack Spreen added two more hits off Escanaba senior ace Lenny Peacock, a West Michigan recruit. Peacock allowed six hits, fanned seven and walked none.
Fortunes were reversed in the JV contest, with Kingsford rolling 14-2 in five innings to improve to 3-0-1. Freshman Gino Santoni went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI and was the winning pitcher with four innings of one-hit ball with six strikeouts and no walks. Freshman Andrew Tomasoski had two hits with a double and three RBIs, joining sophomore Alex Larson and freshmen Cooper Myers and Ian Hensely with multi-hit performances.
Kingsford is scheduled to play this afternoon at Oconto Falls.
