FRANKLIN, Wis. – Kingsford’s varsity baseball team is still in search of its first victory of the season after dropping a pair of games at The Rock Sports Complex Saturday afternoon. The Flivvers lost a lead and fell to Germantown 6-5 before being overmatched by Reedsburg 16-2 in five innings.
The Flivvers, now 0-6, jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead against Germantown and led 3-2 through five, but four-run sixth allowed the Warhawks to jump in front for good. Kingsford didn’t score again until their final at-bat, coming up short in their comeback bid and leaving the tying run stranded at third in the bottom the seventh.
Consecutive errors helped Kingsford to its 3-0 lead against the Warhawks. Junior Brock Flamino put a grounder in play to bring in the first run and was followed by an error of a ground ball off the bat of sophomore Domenic Frederickson to score two more.
Freshman Colin Olsen drew a bases-loaded walk for an RBI in the seventh, and junior Noah Trulock hit into a fielder’s choice for another run after that, but the rally went no further.
Against Reedsburg, the Flivvers were limited to just one hit, an RBI single by Olsen in the fourth. He ended up scoring later in the frame on a groundout by junior Trulock.
All eight of Kingsford’s hits in the two games were singles. Junior Jonah Doenier had two hits and scored in the first game.
Frederickson took the loss in the first game. He pitched into the sixth but was unable to get an out before giving way to Doenier. Frederickson allowed just two hits and whiffed three, but he was hurt by nine walks and was charged with four runs. Doenier gave up four hits and walked four more.
Freshman hurler Gino Santoni was the pitcher of record in the second game. He lasted 3 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits and charged with four runs. He did fan five but also issued six walks. Junior Jack Spreen worked the final inning and one third, tagged for seven more hits and five earned runs.
Kingsford looks to regroup and snag that first win on Tuesday when Crandon visits.
