Knights rally past Badgers
Norway came back from a 3-2 deficit with a four-run fifth inning to defeat Niagara 6-3 in non-conference baseball Tuesday at Mike Maule Field.
“A good team win,” Norway coach Tony Adams said of the six-inning contest. “Great to see our kids respond with a big inning late after a sloppy one on defense,” he added.
Cameron Varda and Tristan Lessor slashed two hits apiece for the Knights, with Varda lacing a triple and Lessor delivering two RBIs.
Norway’s Carter Cazzola and Luke Lagina also had hits and drove in runs while Trenton Halvas singled and scored.
Niagara was limited to five singles — two by Owen Dunkes and one apiece from Landon Sweig, Brayden Bartels and Reid Schroeder.
Dunkes, Bartels and Sweig shared the pitching for the Badgers, walking two and fanning three.
Varda worked two scoreless innings for Norway, striking out two, before giving way to Hunter Langin and Kellan Amundson.
Langin gave up a run in 1 1/3 innings and struck out two. The Badgers scored two of their runs in the fifth against Amundson, but he pitched a scoreless sixth.
“Kellen Amundson kept his composure on the mound and we made plays behind him late,” Adams said.
Each team was charged with two errors.
Norway (9-5) travels to North Dickinson today for a doubleheader.
Niagara (7-4) will host Crivitz today and travel to Wausaukee on Friday.
