Anglers target panfish, walleye
Outdoors Report
IRON MOUNTAIN — Ice conditions are variable as anglers were mostly landing panfish during the early winter season.
“Some bluegill, crappie and perch,” said Doug Whisler at Whisler Outdoors in Florence, Wis. “People are going out there.”
Generally, there’s about 4 to 10 inches of ice, Whisler said, and slush is an issue in some areas.
At Whispering Pines Outpost in Breitung Township, John Grier had a report of a 27-inch walleye caught at Lake Antoine, along with some perch.
With the recent mild weather, a few archers were taking advantage before Wednesday’s conclusion of the Michigan deer season, he added.
The Tri-County Snowmobile Club has been out packing trails and clearing many downed trees. Northern Wisconsin trails were mostly open and in fair to good condition, according to travelwisconsin.com.
