DNR: Cooperative agreement establishes snowmobile trail reroute in Gogebic County

IRONWOOD — A trail reroute agreement has been reached in Gogebic County that will allow an important snowmobile trail segment to remain open this winter. Snow River Mountain Resort (formerly Big Snow Resorts) — part of Midwest Family Ski Resorts — announced in a Sept. 13 email the resort would no longer allow snowmobile or all-terrain vehicle operation on resort property. The closure along Snowmobile Trail UP 2 eliminated trail access between Wakefield and Ironwood, affecting the communities of Bessemer and Ironwood most directly. Menominee, Delta show highest UP buck harvests

IRON MOUNTAIN — Menominee County narrowly holds the top spot in Michigan for the most bucks taken during the 16-day firearm deer season that ended Wednesday. As of 5:30 p.m. Friday, the Upper Peninsula county’s buck harvest was listed at 2,483 on the Department of Natural Resources’ online reporting system. Trail segment remains closed in Dickinson

A bridge replacement project will keep an off-road vehicle and snowmobile trail segment in Dickinson County closed until Jan. 13. Black Creek Road in Waucedah Township will remain closed to all motorized traffic as work continues to replace a bridge over Black Creek. In October, work began on the project, which affected ORV travel on the AE ORV Route between Dickinson County Road 573 and the Norway ORV Trail. Registration open for winter BOW

MARQUETTE — Registration is open for the annual February Becoming an Outdoors-Woman winter weekend event, as well as several smaller “Beyond BOW” activities, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said. The winter weekend, set for Feb. 24-26, is for women 18 and older who are seeking an opportunity to improve their outdoor skills in a relaxed, noncompetitive atmosphere.
