Stefon Diggs

not guilty

BOSTON (AP) — Former Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs was found not guilty of assaulting his private chef in a pay dispute.

The four-time Pro Bowl wideout was facing strangulation charge and a misdemeanor assault and battery charge stemming from the alleged dispute. According to court records, the chef told officers she and Diggs argued about money he owed her for work.

During the Dec. 2 encounter at his home in Dedham, she said, he “smacked her across the face” and then “tried to choke her using the crook of his elbow around her neck,” leaving her feeling short of breath.

Diggs, whose attorney said he denied the charges, was released by the Patriots in March.

Arsenal reaches

league final

LONDON (AP) — Arsenal is back in the Champions League final for the first time in 20 years thanks to a late first-half goal from Bukayo Saka that secured a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid.

Saka was on hand to slot in the rebound after Leandro Trossard’s shot was saved by Jan Oblak in the 45th minute to put Arsenal up 2-1 on aggregate in the semifinal. The Gunners’ stingy defense did the rest as Arsenal has now kept a clean sheet at home in all three knockout rounds.

It will be only Arsenal’s second final in Europe’s premier competition, having lost the 2006 title match to Barcelona. This time it will face either defending champion Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich.

Knicks are

favorites

GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) — The New York Knicks are now the favorites to win the Eastern Conference in the sportsbooks, and they sure look like it on the court. The first team to win three straight postseason games by at least 25 points is looking more and more like the one that could make New York’s first NBA Finals appearance in the 2000s.

The Knicks have won four games in a row by a total of 135 points. They play Philadelphia in Game 2 of the East semifinals tonight at Madison Square Garden.

WNBA players

on the move

NEW YORK (AP) — All-Stars Brittney Griner, Nneka Ogwumike, Skylar Diggins and Satou Sabally all found new places to play this season, taking advantage of free agency. Angel Reese has a new home after she was traded to Atlanta. This might have been the most movement by All-Stars during an offseason in WNBA history.

Not that it comes as a huge surprise. More than 80% of the players in the league were free agents after last season, knowing a huge pay day awaited with the new collective bargaining agreement that was signed in March.

Getting closer to home was one factor in players’ decisions.
