UP’s jobless rate dips below 6%

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Upper Peninsula’s not seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 5.9% in May, down from 6.3% in April and 6.2% a year ago, according to data released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget. Heat wave in forecast ahead of July 4

Highs in the low 80s are predicted this weekend, but the forecast will take a much hotter turn through next week, according to the National Weather Service. For the Iron Mountain area, NWS predicts a high of 91 on Monday, 97 on Tuesday, 95 on Wednesday, 93 on Thursday and 90 on Friday.
