Safer with guns?

Oh my. All those people opposing gun safety laws showed up at the same Dickinson County Board meeting. What are the odds? I guess those with a differing view somehow missed the memo. As to making this a “gun sanctuary county,” I would only point out that in this country, we expect enforcement of all laws, not only those with which we agree. (If someone really believes a law is unconstitutional, there is a remedy for that — it’s called the judicial system.) Reference to the capacity crowd implies that these people speak for the majority opinion in the county. But how many does ...

What’s wrong with this picture?

My wife and I are blessed to have three very precious granddaughters. The middle one (Hazel) is a very perceptive little 5 year old that just started kindergarten. On her first day, she had to ride on the school bus for the first time. After a long day, her mom met her as she got off the bus and asked her how the bus ride was? She answered and said it was good, but ... when she got on the bus and looked to buckle up for the ride, she noticed that only the bus driver was buckled in ...

Something is just not right

EDITOR: It was announced Monday that Michigan State University is investigating the leak of the head football coach Mel Tucker debacle. However, any action the governor chooses to take will have no bearing on employer-based health insurance. Instead of using the Democrat-controlled Michigan State Legislature to accomplish these ends, the governor may want to consider another option that will benefit all Michiganders equally. Michigan could apply for a waiver through the Centers for Medicaid, which would allow all Michiganders access ...

An argument for immigrant labor

I was just listening to a morning cable “news” show and their debate about what a being a conservative means. Now I personally know, because I grew up with a conservative grandfather and on the other side of the family a liberal grandmother. Of course, that is not the whole thing. Personally, I have the ability to think for myself, to see right from wrong, to know what works and what does not work and I have a copy of the Constitution, which is our “book of rules” for the country. I also listen to various points of view but then I compare them to reality. I do not want this to ...
