Mask: What you can do for your country

I would be more “Loyal to Local” if “local” was more loyal to me. I just read Suzanne Killian’s Senior News/Lifestyles column in Saturday’s edition of The Daily News. Wow! She pretty much covered it all. She wrote about finding gratitude in the midst of a chaotic year. The pandemic, of course, was mentioned, along with most of its accompanying losses, the historical presidential election, climate change and the ongoing racial tension in America. Still things to be thankful for

At Thanksgiving in these uncertain times, we still have things to be thankful for: freedom of speech, religion and the press; the right to bear arms; and to vote — the list goes on and on. Thankful to Dickinson County Healthcare System for the free frozen Thanksgiving dinners. The year 2020 is almost behind us and perhaps the coming year 2021 will bring peace and joy. Wearing masks, handwashing and social distancing is still a must for the coming holiday season. Stay safe and healthy.

Great American Outdoors Act

At a time when there is so much negativity in the news, I would like to submit a positive. I want to tell your readers, up front, that I gleaned the following information from an organization, The Nature Conservancy, to which I contribute in a small way each year. Government that does not serve us

Totalitarian regimes all have bureaus that intimidate and abuse citizens who oppose the views and activities of the party in power. Nazis had the SS, Russia the KGB and the Democrats have the FBI and the CIA. Notice I did not say America but Democrats. This is where the great divide in our country begins and unfortunately ends. City Park bucks had a horrible, cruel death

EDITOR: This letter is in reference to the two bucks in Iron Mountain’s City Park deer pen that recently died as a result of locking horns and drowning. I am sickened beyond belief of the slow yet brutal, horrific, cruel death that these animals had to go through — and for what? To live in a pen like a herd of cows for the public to view. If you have to go to City Park to see deer, there is something wrong. Deer are everywhere! So much so that the city has managed archery hunts. What is the actual purpose of this deer pen?
