Need to care about people, not the deficit

I have been listening to the news recently. They keep talking about the economy and how we are now in a depression. Why is this happening? I understand people don’t want us to increase the deficit but what happened to the deficit when they gave tax breaks to the rich? I understand their reasoning. They thought the companies would use that money to create more jobs. That did not happen. Most companies used money to buy back their own stock or give money to their shareholders. EDITOR: On Thursday’s The Daily News editorial page, I was quite concerned with a letter relating to Rep. Jack Bergman’s job performance. Rep. Bergman is not really concerned about the items we, his constituents, worry about. It appears that keeping us informed is of little interest to him. My personal feelings about Rep. Fear of virus used for control

Imagine government telling you, in order to protect you from getting a deadly virus, they want to separate people according to age, color, sex or religion and they would need to keep like-kinds in their own fortressed areas to keep others from reaching you. In a greater effort to make sure you were safe, they show up one day and string razor wire around the facility to make sure nobody could get to you while the government is taking care of you. The meaning of the word patriot

According to the Webster dictionary, a patriot is “one who loves his country and support its authority and interest.” The first thing is love of country. The problem is love does not say anything about behavior. For example, wife abusers will claim to love their wives, child abusers their children and defrauders/abusers of government power their country. Clearly love does not always mean actions or intent good or healthy for the country. I wrote U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman about important issues. He only responded to my concern about Russian bounties on U.S. servicemen. Bergman’s Aug. 10 response, abbreviated, was: “Thank you for contacting me with your concerns about recent reports of Russian intelligence units paying the Taliban to attack U.S. Forces in Afghanistan ... please know I am resolved to take any appropriate and proportional steps to ensure our service members are protected.” He didn’t say exactly what he was going to do or how he was going to call President Donald Trump to account for his response to ...

Some thoughts on Sturgis rally

EDITOR: I saw on the television news a story about the annual motorcycle rally and gathering in Sturgis, South Dakota. It was reported that the attendees were pretty much ignoring the advice of the medical community as far as the COVID-19 thing goes. Now, as this is a virus, it does not realize nor care about your interests, your perceived freedoms or your political leanings.
