Wisconsin DNR issues ice safety advisory

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources urges the public to practice ice safety on all of Wisconsin’s waterbodies and remember that no ice is safe ice. Temperature swings, mixed precipitation and other factors are making ice unsafe to walk or drive on across much of the state, despite recent snowfall and subzero temperatures. Get Ice Status From Local Sources The DNR does not monitor ice conditions. Pete Church derby prizes awarded

AURORA, Wis. — A 36 1/2-inch northern pike catch highlighted the Pete “Toad” Church Ice Fishing Derby hosted Jan. 20 by the Homestead-Aurora Conservation Club. Grant Larson registered the big pike as 155 participating anglers could fish any waters during Wisconsin’s free fishing weekend. Other top catches were Zach Wolf, 24-inch walleye; Pat VanPembrook, 13-inch crappie; Mark Valentine, 11 5/8-inch perch; and Mark Lanthier and Hank DeClark, 10 1/2-inch bluegill. Trappers workshop Feb. 3

HERMANSVILLE — The Arduin Brothers Memorial Trapper’s Workshop will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Community Center Building in Hermansville.
