Annual Cornish Market scheduled for Sept. 28

IRON MOUNTAIN — The First Methodist Church Women will host its Cornish Market featuring its recipes from its rich Cornish heritage on Saturday, Sept. 28. The market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon at the church at 106 Fourth St. in Iron Mountain. They will sell its authentic saffron buns, seedy buns, Cousin Jack cookies, potato cake and jelly tarts, along with mini pasties and traditional bakery and snacks. The Cornish Cafe will once again offer its pasty lunch, a slice of traditional apple pie with scalded, coffee or tea.

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Carmelite Fall Festival is planned from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22, at Carmel of the Holy Cross Monastery in Iron Mountain. The event will feature baked goods, arts, crafts, basket raffle and plate lunch including the Sisters’ famous bread that will be available for purchase. Raffle tickets will be sold for $5 for six. Prizes include $500, first; $400, second; $300, third; $200, fourth; and $100, fifth. The drawing will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at the monastery. Winners do not need to be present. Pie social set for Saturday

CRYSTAL FALLS — The annual Pie Social, sponsored by United Methodist Women, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Christ United Methodist Church, 500 Marquette Ave. in Crystal Falls. They will serve a slice of pie and complimentary beverage for $4. They will also have whole pies for sale. This is their largest fundraiser of the year. Monies raised are used to help various missions in and around the community.
