ServSafe class starts Tuesday

IRON MOUNTAIN — Michigan State University Extension will offer a ServSafe class to educate food service managers about food safety practices from 9 a.m. to about 5 p.m. Tuesday in the community room of Forward Financial Credit Union, W8159 U.S. 2, Iron Mountain.

ServSafe is a food protection manager certification examination accredited by the American National Standards Institute-Conference for Food Protection. Since 2010, state law mandates every food establishment in Michigan must employ a minimum of one certified manager.

Participants will learn how to prevent foodborne illness and how to train employees about the latest food safety concerns.

Training classes are taught by MSU Extension educators who are certified instructors and exam proctors through the National Restaurant Association.

The course prepares participants to successfully pass the ServSafe certification exam. Topics include safe food provision, forms of contamination, the safe food handler, the flow of food, food safety management systems, safe facilities and pest management, and cleaning and sanitizing.
