Events planned at Crystal Falls Community Library

CRYSTAL FALLS –Several events are planned this week at the Crystal Falls Community Library.

The Great American Smokeout occurs on the third Thursday of every November, which is this Thursday. Kelly Rumpf, health educator with the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department, has prepared several pamphlets and brochures about the dangers of smoking and vaping that will be available at the library Thursday.

“Although many people may know the side effects of smoking, there is much to be learned about how vaping effects teens and adults. We encourage everyone to come to the library on Thursday to pick up some literature to learn more, especially parents and grandparents of teenagers,” Director Evelyn Gathu said.

The library will have its annual Amnesty Day on Friday. Any patrons that currently have a fine at the library can come in to the circulation desk anytime from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and ask to have their fines forgiven. The fines will not be removed automatically — a physical visit or phone call on Friday is requested. The number is 906-875-3344.

The library will have Thanksgiving Story Hours on Saturday. Due to the current restrictions on gathering size, the library will have story hours with four children at a time to allow for social distancing, Gathu said. Masks will be required.

“Children will get to listen to some thoughtful and funny Thanksgiving stories along with making their very own Turkey Bowling Set, which they can play with their families on Thanksgiving,” Gathu said.

Children also will get to take home a Thanksgiving book to keep for their home library. Those interested in having their child or children attend a Thanksgiving story hour should call 906-875-3344, or email to egathu@uproc.lib.mi.us to reserve a space.

“We ask that only one parent accompanies the child/children to the event. Thank for understanding our necessary precautions,” Gathu said.
