Finding our way

By The Rev. JOSEPH O. GOUIN

There is a book called “Letters from the Desert,” written by Carlo Carretto.

It is a book about his experiences when he went into the desert to learn how to pray.

In one part of the book, Carretto says that he often lost his way in the desert during the day because the sun was too high in the sky. But at night he found his way again, guided by the stars.

The same can be true with life’s journey. We can lose our way during the day when we walk in the sunlight of prosperity. But we can rediscover our way again at “night,” when we walk in the starlight of adversity.

Many of us have had some messes that we got ourselves in and it was so bad that it brought us to our knees.

This could be finding us on our knees before God or before someone we offended.

But it is in this adversity that we can find our way back to God and one another.

A lesson could be that in life we walk in the sunlight, but we also need to walk looking at the night stars –that way, we will not lose the way.

God bless.
