Bratton Scholarship recipients announced

NIAGARA, Wis. — Ty Colenso and Hayley Allred recently were awarded Sherman Bratton Memorial Scholarships at Niagara High School, officials with the Niagara Area Scholarship Foundation announced.

The recent Class of 2021 graduates became the 27th annual recipients of the scholarships. They were presented with their awards by District Administrator Nathaniel Burklund during the recent Niagara High School commencement ceremony.

The $500 scholarships are provided annually by the family and friends of the late Sherman Bratton, a. longtime Niagara resident who had an extensive record of service to area youth, school and community as a whole.

An avid sports fan, Bratton was a great supporter of the school girls and boys teams.

He served several years on the Niagara School Board, where he was instrumental in the construction of the football field and the Riverside Park soccer complex.

Candidates for the scholarship must have participated in athletics and compiled a positive record of sportsmanship.

Both Bratton Scholarship recipients had strong academic records while in high school and were active in many extracurricular activities. Colenso, son of Renae and Jason Colenso, graduated second in his class and plans to major in finance at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Allred is the daughter of Jen and Cory Allred. She graduated third in the Class of 2021 and will attend Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay to pursue a degree in design and graphic technology.
