IC Museum to present ‘Gangsters Up North’ for first History Happy Hour event

CASPIAN — The Iron County Historical Museum will host a series of History Happy Hour events from 6 to 8 p.m. on the last Fridays in June, July and August.

The first event this Friday will feature author Robert Knapp, who will share some of the secrets he uncovered while researching for his book “Gangsters Up North: Mobsters, Mafia, and Racketeers in Michigan’s Vacationlands.”

“We’re so looking forward to kicking off this series,” said Erika Sauter, museum director. “It should be a night of fascinating history, socializing and networking, and delicious pours from Toti’s Tavern right here on our museum grounds.”

A $5 admission fee that includes an appetizer will be collected at the door. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Reservations are encouraged so food plans can be made accordingly.

Details also are in place for the July and August events. On July 30, Beaumier Heritage Center Director Daniel Truckey will share a presentation on “The Polar Bears: U.P. Soldiers in the Northern Russia Expeditionary Forces of WWI.”

On Aug. 27, Mike and Ruth Reisch, owners and curators of Earthaven Museum, will share the “10 Most Important Minerals Mined in the U.S.” and bring some of their most unique samples to show and tell.

The June event is sponsored by Peninsula Title Agency. To learn more and for reservations call 906-265-2617 or email Erika@ironcountymuseum.org.
