Bates Hall renovation fundraisers underway
BATES — The Bates Hall Preservation Society has been actively researching and meeting with various agencies and construction experts to decide the best foundation for its 1907 Bates Township Hall.
With the expense of restoring/renovating a hall of this type, fundraising efforts are key.
The society will be at the Windsor Spring Craft Show in Iron River on Saturday, April 9, and welcome any questions. Raffle tickets, with a variety of prizes, will also be available at the craft show for $3 each or two for $5.
Currently they are working with Three River Spring Flower Bulbs. Please refer to the Society Facebook page at Bates Hall Preservation Society. This is a direct online sale over the internet. The bulbs are sent directly to those who order. The fundraiser ends April 9.
They are also planning a rummage sale July 1 and 2 at the Bates School. Any non-clothing items will be accepted and can be brought to the school on June 30.
Another fundraiser underway is the sale of engraved bricks/tiles which will be installed in the hall complex. They are $50 and the purchase is open to any person, organization or business. The society asks that people advise their out of town friends and family, especially those who have ties to the Bates Hall. Contact Sue Passamani at 906-265-4771 or depass116@gmail.com or check out their Facebook page, the Iron County Chamber or Bates Township Hall office for an order form. They are currently working on other outlets to pick up forms as well.
Although the society has received funds to begin the project, more funds will be needed to accomplish the three phases of the project, foundation, steps and commercial kitchen. Donations are always welcome.
