NIAGARA, Wis. — The Friends of the Niagara Library will host an Author Talk and book signing with bestselling author Joe Verdegan at 7 p.m. Monday, May 4.
Verdegan, of Dunbar, Wis., will discuss his 2025 release, “The Monfils 6 Case — 30 Years Later.”
The true crime book covers one of the biggest, most controversial murder cases in Green Bay history. In November 1992, Green Bay paper mill worker Tom Monfils was found dead at the bottom of a vat inside James River Paper Mill. Six of his co-workers received life sentences for Monfils’ death in a joint trial for all six men.
During his Author Talk, Verdegan will break down the facts of the case and the challenges he faced during his five years writing this book. He will take questions from the audience after his presentation.
“The Monfils 6 Case — 30 Years Later” was the eighth book penned by Verdegan and the fifth he published with Pedal Down Promotions of Manitowoc, Wis.

Verdegan will have all eight of his titles available at the signing, including his 2020 bestseller, “The Reformatory — Tales From Green Bay’s maximum-security prison.”
Verdegan worked nearly 27 years on the front lines of the often-dangerous penitentiary. In “The Reformatory,” Verdegan pulled back the curtain, providing an honest take of day-to-day life behind bars.
