Chiropractic clinic changes ownership as Mellon retires

DR. MICHAEL MELLON has retired and turned over his chiropractic practice to Dr. Jake Zeugner, who began treating patients Oct. 4 at the same location at 208 E. Hughitt St. in Iron Mountain. The business now will be known as Ferrum Chiropractic.

IRON MOUNTAIN — After almost 39 years in practice, chiropractor Dr. Michael Mellon has retired.

Dr. Jake Zeugner purchased the practice and began treating patients on Oct. 4 at the same location, 208 E. Hughitt St. in Iron Mountain.

Mellon was a third-generation chiropractor and the fourth to practice at this location. Dr. Frank Logic was the first, then Dr. Ambrose Mellon in 1952, Dr. Robert Mellon and Dr. Michael Mellon in 1998 and now Zeugner.

Dr. Robert Mellon, Michael’s father, just turned 90 in September and was able to see his son retire.

Zeugner, son of Ronald and Barbara Zeugner of Vulcan, graduated from Norway High School in 2008. He then attended Northern Michigan University, where he received his bachelor of science degree. He then attended the Palmer Chiropractic College in Florida and upon graduation came back to the Upper Peninsula to practice. He has been practicing in Iron River for the past four years. Jake and his wife, Sara, live in Iron Mountain.

The former Mellon office has been renamed Ferrum Chiropractic. The name “Ferrum” was derived from the Latin word for “iron.”

Zeugner takes all ages of patients. Walk-ins are welcome.

For more information, go online to Ferrum Chiropractic’s Facebook page or www.ferrumchiropractic.com, or call 906-774-2488.

Mellon would like to thank all the people who chose him and put their confidence in him as their chiropractor. His wife and office manager, Lori, will be retiring with him. He has treated numerous generations of families. He will miss his patients, he said, as many have become like family after all these years.

“It has been a very rewarding career and it has been much harder to give up than imagined. But now it is time to turn the practice over to Dr. Jake,” Mellon said.
