KINGSFORD — A 55-year-old man died Tuesday in an accident on the roof at AAM Casting in Kingsford.

The report came about 2:44 p.m. Tuesday that a section of duct work had collapsed at the former Grede Foundries at 801 S. Carpenter Ave., trapping the man underneath, according to Kingsford Public Safety.

The man was pronounced dead at the foundry.

A heavy crane had to be brought in to lift the fallen duct work off the worker, witnesses said.

Kingsford Public Safety did not release the man’s name. But a death notice for 55-year-old Michael Hand of Crystal Falls was published in the Daily News; that name matched what earlier had been posted on social media and was confirmed through other sources.
