IRON MOUNTAIN — Rules and procedures aimed at making next week’s 2020 Pine Mountain Continental Cup ski jumping competition operate as smoothly and safely as possible in Iron Mountain have been released.

Kiwanis Ski Club officials recently met with local law enforcement to establish the guidelines for the event, scheduled for Feb. 14 through 16.

They noted undercover officers will patrol for violations, including minors consuming alcohol or other controlled substances.

The guidelines include:

— Pine Mountain Road will be closed to through traffic Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 15 and 16, starting at about 8:30 a.m. Central time both days. Those attending should be prepared for traffic changes entering and departing the ski jump complex. “You are encouraged to pre-purchase your Booster Buttons so you may use the express lane when entering,” said Susie Fox, correspondence secretary. Those exiting the parking lot before 2:30 p.m. will only be able to turn right, she said.

— Drivers should use extreme caution when approaching gates and throughout the jump complex property, as many pedestrians will be on foot, she said.

— “Special emphasis” will be placed on controlling fires in the parking lot. All fires must be contained at all times; excess size and smoke will not be tolerated. Burning barrels or approved commercial-contained fireplaces must be used. No fires may be started on the ground. No wood pallets, bales of hay or straw, Christmas trees or furniture may be burned, Fox said.

— By 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, all vehicles in general admission parking must be parked bumper to the snowbank.

— Admission buttons must be worn and visible at all times, starting Friday, Feb. 14.

— There will be no access to the top of the hill on either Friday, Saturday or Sunday, Feb. 14-16.

— Snowmobiles and off-road vehicles may not be ridden in the parking lot, but can be parked in the far west end of the lot.

— Campers, recreational vehicle and buses all will have designated parking areas. For more information, call 906-396-1212.

— Stereo noise must be kept to a minimum at all times.

— Shelter construction is strongly discouraged. If done, the height must not exceed 6 feet as a courtesy to those behind them.

— Refrigerator box-type “homemade” portable toilets will not be permitted.

— Those attending should clean up after themselves — do not leave garbage or shelter debris.

— All spectators must leave the parking lot after the competition by 7 p.m. Feb. 15 and 16.

— All state laws and county ordinances will be enforced, including underage consumption and other alcohol-related violations.

— Animals are discouraged at the complex — if brought, they must be on a leash, with no exceptions.

— No sliding permitted on any of the hills on or adjacent to the landing hill.

“The Kiwanis Ski Club thanks you for your consideration and adherence to these guidelines,” Fox said.
