Only new COVID-19 case in UP in Delta County

The state listed only one new COVID-19 positive in the Upper Peninsula on Tuesday, in Delta County, while a manufacturer in Marinette, Wis., continues to see its number of cases climb.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Tuesday showed Baraga County with one virus case; Houghton, Luce and Chippewa counties with two cases; Schoolcraft County with four cases; Gogebic County with five cases and a death; Dickinson County with five cases and two deaths; Mackinac County with six cases; Menominee County with eight cases; Delta County with 15 cases and two deaths; and Marquette County with 52 cases and 10 deaths.

The MDHHS also has separately listed prison inmates as positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

The tally Tuesday afternoon brought the U.P.’s total to 104 positive, including 15 deaths.

Iron, Keweenaw, Alger and Ontonagon counties have yet to report a COVID-19 case in the Upper Peninsula and are the only counties in Michigan not to have at least one positive coronavirus test.

The MDHHS statewide reported 435 confirmed new COVID-19 cases Tuesday for a total of 52,350 to date. The state had 102 new deaths — which included 43 deaths that happened earlier but were confirmed through vital records and testing — for 5,017 to date.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 site Tuesday listed Marinette County with 25 cases and two deaths; Forest County with nine cases; Vilas County with four cases; Florence County with two cases; and Iron County, two cases and a death.

Fincantieri Marinette Marine on Monday reported two more employees testing positive at its shipbuilding facility in Marinette, Wis., bringing the total there to 10 since April 23. The latest cases last worked May 8 and May 12.

Statewide, Wisconsin had recorded 12,885 cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday afternoon, with 467 deaths.

Dickinson County Healthcare System on Monday listed three county residents testing positive at its facilities thus far, with two deaths, along with five positives from other counties; those counties were not identified. DCHS had tested 420 people for COVID-19, with eight positive, 394 negative and 18 results still pending. DCHS noted there are several additional sources of testing in Dickinson County. The site was not updated Tuesday.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department for Wednesday had five positive cases, 536 negative tests and seven tests pending among 548 done so far in Dickinson County; Iron County has no positives, 411 negative tests and 13 pending among 424 administered, according to the DIDHD’s Facebook page.
