July 4 events canceled in Sagola, Breen

Sagola and Breen township officials say they have reluctantly decided to cancel their July 4 plans for 2020.

Breen Township will forego its Fourth of July Parade, normally done with neighboring Felch Township, which was set this year to take place in Foster City.

Felch Township for now still plans to have a fireworks show for the holiday.

The Sagola Township Volunteer Fire Department “with great sadness” called off its Fourth of July festivities, which included a parade, picnic at the park and fireworks display.

“It was not a decision that was taken lightly nor easy to make,” fire department officials said in a news release. “With the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic and state restrictions on large gatherings, we felt it was best for the health and safety of the community to cancel the event.”

The department does expect to resume festivities in 2021.

“The last few months have been difficult for many of us. We will pull through this and we look forward to seeing everyone healthy July 4, 2021,” the department stated.
