North Dickinson names top graduates

MASYN ALEXA

FELCH TOWNSHIP — The North Dickinson County School District has announced the valedictorian and salutatorian for the graduating Class of 2020.

They are:

— Masyn Alexa of Sagola, daughter of Chastity and Steve Alexa, is valedictorian with a 4.0 grade-point average.

Among the honors she received were departmental awards in algebra 1, algebra 2, trigonometry, physical science, chemistry, social studies, writing and weightlifting. She was a Hometowne Lumber Athlete of the Month, Most Valuable Runner in track in 2018 and 2019, and won the Coach’s and Most Improved awards in volleyball.

Alexa was vice president of her graduating class. Extracurricular activities included volleyball, track and field, basketball, National Honor Society and HOSA-Future Health Professionals.

CUYLER CRITES

Outside of school, she participated in youth group, volunteered at Alex’s Place Coffeehouse Ministry and Camp Elijah and was employed at Signature Design.

Alexa plans to study exercise science or pre-physician assistant at Michigan Technological University.

— Cuyler Crites of Felch Township, son of Sally and Steve Crites, is salutatorian with a 3.8789 GPA.

Among his academic achievements were six consecutive semesters of academic honors; two consecutive semesters of all A’s; and departmental awards in social studies, biology and trigonometry. He also earned an academic letter.

Crites was vice president of his class as a sophomore. Extracurricular activities included band from eighth to 12th grade, National Honor Society, varsity football from sophomore to senior year — he was a team captain his junior year — and varsity basketball his junior and senior year.

Outside of school, Crites is a member of St. Joseph’s Mission Church in Foster City, where he does most of his volunteer work. He also enjoys fishing, hunting, reading, listening to music, watching sports and playing video games. 

He plans to study pre-professional health at Bay De Noc Community College, then transfer to Central Michigan University to complete his bachelor’s degree and then attend CMU’s medical school.
