New virus cases in Dickinson, Menominee counties

Dickinson County has another two COVID-19 positives Wednesday, bringing its total to 36, local health officials reported.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department updated the total on its Facebook page Wednesday afternoon but as has been the practice provided no additional information on the individuals or how they might have contracted the virus.

Elsewhere in the Upper Peninsula, Menominee County has three new positives, Mackinac County two new and Houghton County a single new case.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, that state’s COVID-19 data site showed seven more cases in Marinette County — only four short of reaching 200 — plus four more in Iron County and one more in Forest County. The count for Vilas County also was lowered by one.

Public health officials in both Iron and Forest counties posted additional positives on their Facebook pages by afternoon, with four and two new cases, respectively. It brings Iron to 41 and Forest to 53 cases.

The Forest County Health Department also advised that several people connected to Veeser’s Wild Rose Pub & Grill in Wabeno, Wis., have tested positive for the virus.

“All of today’s (Wednesday’s) additional cases are linked to the current public health investigation with Veeser’s Wild Rose. The Forest County Health Department is working closely with the business to identify individuals who may have been exposed,” the advisory stated.

The department recommended that anyone who was at the business this past Friday through Monday monitor for symptoms for 14 days; should symptoms develop, they should get tested and quarantine at home.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services data site Wednesday had Ontonagon County with one confirmed virus case; Keweenaw two confirmed cases; Luce County three confirmed cases; Alger County three confirmed cases and one probable; Baraga County with five confirmed cases; Schoolcraft County with eight confirmed cases; Mackinac County 12 confirmed cases and one probable; Iron County 10 confirmed cases and one death; Chippewa County 21 confirmed cases and four probable; Houghton County 33 confirmed cases and five probable; Dickinson County 34 confirmed cases, one probable and two deaths; Gogebic County 41 confirmed cases, four probable and a death; Delta County 41 confirmed cases, 14 probable and three deaths; Menominee County 57 confirmed cases and four probable; and Marquette County 99 confirmed cases, eight probable and 11 deaths. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS also earlier separately had prison inmates as positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

Using strictly the state figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 372 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 18 deaths.

The MDHHS reported 523 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Wednesday for a total of 75,248 to date. The state had six new deaths Wednesday for 6,141 to date.

According to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department, Dickinson County as of Wednesday had 36 confirmed COVID-19 positives, with five recovered, two deaths and 29 cases still active. Iron County has 10 positives, with four recovered, one death and five still active.

Dickinson County Healthcare System as of Tuesday showed six cases from Dickinson County and 10 cases from other counties; those counties are not identified. DCHS has tested 1,977 people for COVID-19, with 16 positive, 1,886 negative and 75 results still pending. DCHS noted there are several additional sources of testing in Dickinson County.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday listed Marinette County with 196 cases and three deaths; Forest County with 51 cases and four deaths; Iron County 37 cases and one death; Vilas County 20 cases; and Florence County five cases. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports.

Wisconsin had 712 new cases Wednesday for a total of 44,847 to date, according to the state DHS data site. The state recorded six new COVID-19 deaths to reach 865 to date.
