Breitung to resume normal schedule for township workers

After months of remote or as-needed field work due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, all hourly Breitung Township employees will resume normal work hours beginning Monday.

The Breitung Township Board of Trustees made the decision this week during a township hall meeting that was also accessible by teleconference.

“I think we need to get back to work as normally as we can,” Trustee David Soderbloom said.

“I think this is a step in the right direction,” Supervisor Denny Olson said, noting remote work has been “fine,” though he considered in-person participation more effective.

Any employee who exhibits symptoms of COVID-19 should contact Township Superintendent Steve Mulka.

The township hall in Quinnesec will remain closed to the general public for the time being.

In other business, the board allowed Mulka and Department of Public Works Superintendent Guy Forstrom to review a bid for roof replacements at the East Kingsford warming building, the Quinnesec Cemetery’s sexton building and Pump House No. 3. The bid made by Petschar Construction of Iron Mountain is priced at $19,875.

Starting at $3.50/week.
