COVID-19 case count climbs in Upper Peninsula

IRON MOUNTAIN — Michigan health data listed 20 new COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula on Friday, including six new cases in Delta County.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services data site Friday also added five more cases in Marquette County, four in Gogebic County, two in Alger County and one each in Chippewa, Menominee and Iron counties. The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department had posted the new Iron County positive Thursday on its Facebook page.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state COVID-19 data site Friday showed eight more positives in Marinette County, two more in Iron County and one more each in Forest and Vilas counties.

On Facebook, local health departments posted one more COVID-19 case in both Iron and Forest counties in Wisconsin to reach 72 and 59, respectively.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services data site Friday had Keweenaw County with two confirmed cases and one probable; Luce County with three confirmed cases; Ontonagon County, three confirmed and one probable; Baraga County, five confirmed cases; Alger County, six confirmed cases and two probable; Schoolcraft County, eight confirmed cases; Mackinac County, 16 confirmed cases and four probable; Iron County, 17 confirmed cases and one death; Chippewa County, 21 confirmed cases and eight probable; Houghton County, 40 confirmed cases and seven

probable; Dickinson County, 43 confirmed cases, one probable and two deaths; Delta County, 57 confirmed cases, 15 probable and three deaths; Gogebic County, 76 confirmed cases, seven probable and a death; Menominee County, 82 confirmed cases and four probable; and Marquette County, 117 confirmed cases, 10 probable and 11 deaths. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS also earlier separately had prison inmates as positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

Using strictly the state figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 498 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 18 deaths.

The MDHHS reported 734 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Friday for a total of 81,621. The state had eight new deaths Friday for total of 6,199 to date.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Friday listed Marinette County with 280 cases and three deaths; Iron County 71 cases and one death; Forest County 58 cases and four deaths; Vilas County 29 cases; and Florence County seven cases. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies; the Florence County Health Department on its website Thursday listed a sixth case but not a seventh.

Wisconsin reported 832 new cases Friday for a total of 52,940 to date, according to the state DHS data site. The state had 15 new COVID-19 deaths Friday to reach 934 to date.

Dickinson County Healthcare System as of Friday showed 11 cases from Dickinson County and 11 cases from other counties; those counties are not identified. DCHS has tested 2,322 people for COVID-19, with 22 positive, 2,201 negative and 99 results still pending. DCHS noted there are several additional sources of testing in Dickinson County.
