Florence virus report prompts advisory
Florence County health officials have been notified of a COVID-19 positive that was at several local establishments and may have come into contact with a number of other people.
The Florence County Health Department on Friday put out an advisory that the individual Tuesday was at Northern Lites Bar between 3:30 and 5 p.m. and at Dina Mia restaurant from 5 to 7 p.m., then at Tavern on Central from 5:50 to 7 p.m. Thursday. All are in the town of Florence, Wis.
The individual’s primary residence is not Florence County, said Annette Seibold, agency director. Michigan health officials are contacting others with whom the person had close contact, Seibold said.
Contract tracing began once the person tested positive for COVID-19, Seibold said. When it is not possible to specifically identify contacts from an exposure during which adequate physical distancing was not maintained, a news release will be issued so the public can better know their potential exposure risk, she said.
“If you think you were exposed at the establishment during this time, stay home and isolate and call your health care provider for further direction,” Seibold advised.
Florence County establishments have been contacted by the health department and continue to follow safety guidelines, she said.
The health department also reported two new Florence County cases Friday for a total of eight; the other six are now listed as recovered.
Also in the region, an employee at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls has tested positive for COVID-19.
“The facility has reported the positive employee case to all appropriate agencies and at this time no further recommendations have been made,” said Jessica Schultz, diversional therapy director at ICMCF.
Staff has been tested weekly since early July, most recently Wednesday. The facility is awaiting results from that testing.
“At this time, staff continue to follow all infection control practices related to COVID-19 to keep our residents and employees safe,” Schultz said.
Employees continue to be screened as they enter the building. In light of the new case, weekly testing of residents will resume and continue until 14 days after the last positive test result, officials said.
ICMCF will continue to keep residents and their representatives updated with new information as it becomes available.
