New virus cases in Dickinson, Iron, Menominee counties

Local health officials Thursday posted two new COVID-19 positives in Iron County and one new in Dickinson County.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department listed on its Facebook page 64 confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County, with 39 recovered, two deaths and 23 cases still active. Iron County has had 28 positives, with 14 recovered, one death and 13 still active.

Public Health, Delta and Menominee Counties had Menominee County’s total Thursday at 212, seven more cases than the state indicated and still leading the Upper Peninsula’s 15 counties. Of those, less than half — 73 — are considered recovered.

Elsewhere in the Upper Peninsula, Michigan’s COVID-19 data site Thursday showed three new cases in Delta County and one each in Menominee, Marquette, Houghton and Mackinac counties.

On the Wisconsin side of the border, that state’s data site recorded eight new positives in Marinette County, three in Iron County, two in Vilas County and one in Forest County. Via Facebook, Forest County Health Department listed three new positives Thursday to reach 70 overall, with 60 recovered and four deaths, while Iron County had one new case beyond the state figures, to 119.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had Keweenaw County with two confirmed cases; Luce County, four confirmed cases; Baraga County, six confirmed cases and two probable; Schoolcraft County, 14 confirmed cases and one probable; Alger County, 16 confirmed and one probable; Mackinac County, 25 confirmed cases and eight probable; Iron County, 27 confirmed cases and one death; Ontonagon County, 32 confirmed and one probable; Chippewa County, 35 confirmed cases and 16 probable; Houghton County, 53 confirmed cases and nine probable; Dickinson County, 62 confirmed cases, one probable and two deaths; Delta County, 114 confirmed cases, 26 probable and three deaths; Gogebic County, 132 confirmed cases, 10 probable and a death; Marquette County, 204 confirmed cases, 35 probable and 11 deaths; and Menominee County, 205 confirmed cases and 29 probable. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS also earlier separately had prison inmates who were positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

Using only the state figures Thursday, the Upper Peninsula has had 933 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date with 18 deaths.

The MDHHS reported 758 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Thursday for a total of 99,958 to date. The state added 16 new deaths — including 15 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — for a total of 6,440.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had Marinette County with 582 cases and six deaths; Iron County 118 cases and one death; Vilas County 97 cases; Forest County 67 cases and four deaths; and Florence County 23 cases. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin recorded 878 new positives in the state Thursday for a total of 73,138 to date, according to the state DHS data site. The state had 11 new COVID-19 deaths for a total of 1,111.

Dickinson County Healthcare System as of Thursday showed 19 cases from Dickinson County and 30 cases from other counties; those counties are not identified. DCHS has tested 3,071 people for COVID-19, with 49 positive, 2,958 negative and 64 results still pending. DCHS noted there are several additional sources of testing in Dickinson County.
