Unlock Michigan petition event Saturday in IM

IRON MOUNTAIN – Unlock Michigan of Dickinson County will host a candidate meet and greet featuring special guests state Sen. Ed McBroom, R-Waucedah Township, and state Rep. Beau LaFave, R-Iron Mountain, as well as the U.P. regional director of Unlock Michigan, Jake Putala.

The event will be held at the Recreation Lanes parking lot at 1555 N. Stephenson Ave. in Iron Mountain on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The legislators will discuss the current COVID-19 statistics in Michigan and the difficulties of having both the 1945 and the 1976 emergency powers laws on the books. They will be available to constituents who have questions or comments.

There will also be signing stations for any registered voter in Michigan who wants to sign the petition to repeal the 1945 law.

Unlock Michigan currently has over 200,000 signatures, with the goal of collecting 500,000 signatures in 60 days, said petition supporter Pamela Trask of Iron Mountain.
