Dickinson reports 12 new virus cases, one death

Local health officials Friday reported a new coronavirus-related death in Dickinson County along with a dozen new confirmed COVID-19 positives.

Iron County had only three new confirmed positives, after having no new cases Thursday, and seven residents reclassified as recovered, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department posted on Facebook. Dickinson County had 16 recovered cases Friday.

The DIDHD on Friday listed Dickinson County at 1,922 confirmed positives and 160 probable cases, with 1,358 recovered, 61 deaths and 663 cases still active. Iron County has had 745 confirmed cases and 45 probables, with 606 recovered, 34 deaths and 150 cases still active, according to the DIDHD.

Across the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus data site Friday had 84 new confirmed positives: 17 in Marquette County; 12 in Dickinson County; 11 in Chippewa County; 10 in Houghton County; eight in Delta County; seven in Menominee County; five in Schoolcraft County; four in Alger County; three in Iron, Gogebic and Baraga counties; and one in Mackinac County. Mackinac County had its second confirmed virus-related death as well.

In total for the U.P., the MDHHS on Friday had Keweenaw County at 68

confirmed cases and 15 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 125 confirmed cases and 61 probable; Alger County, 182 confirmed, 93 probable and one death, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 194 confirmed cases and 17 probable, three deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 250 confirmed cases and 109 probable, two deaths; Ontonagon County, 272 confirmed, 28 probable and 14 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 459 confirmed cases, 95 probable and 28 deaths; Chippewa County, 487 confirmed cases and 703 probable, and nine deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 700 confirmed cases and 288 probable, 12 confirmed deaths and 18 probable deaths; Iron County, 743 confirmed cases and 42 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and five probable; Menominee County, 1,360 confirmed cases, 182 probable and 22 deaths; Houghton County, 1,532 confirmed cases, 375 probable, 17 confirmed deaths and six probable; Dickinson County, 1,917 confirmed cases and 157 probable, 52 confirmed deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 2,435 confirmed cases and 388 probable, 56 confirmed deaths and 15 probable; and Marquette County, 3,020 confirmed cases, 380 probable and 48 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures Friday, the Upper Peninsula has had 13,744 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date and 297 deaths.

The MDHHS on Friday reported 4,180 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan for a total of 454,956 to date. The state added 66 new deaths Friday to reach 11,274.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state’s COVID-19 data site on Friday showed 21 new cases in Marinette County, 12 in Vilas County, seven in Forest County, three in Florence County, and one in Iron County. Marinette County also had a new death.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Friday had Marinette County with 3,401 confirmed cases, 304 probable cases and 39 deaths; Vilas County, 1,488 confirmed, 53 probable and 21 deaths, two probable deaths; Forest County, 798 confirmed, 57 probable and 20 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 405 confirmed, 101 probable and 10 deaths, 10 probable; and Florence County, 385 confirmed, 22 probable and 12 deaths. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 3,235 new positives Friday for a total of 451,676 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The state recorded 60 deaths Friday to reach 4,315.
