When will ice crack on lake?
NEGAUNEE (AP) — The Negaunee Lions Club and the Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce are selling chances to guess when replica mining equipment will fall through the ice at Teal Lake as the lake’s cover melts.
The cost is $5 for each entry in the annual fundraiser. Participants guess the date and time when the equipment hits the water. The winner gets 50% of the net proceeds or at least $500, whichever is greater.
This year’s winner received $1,579 when the ice broke May 3. In 2019, the winner guessed April 26.
The winning entry must be purchased at least 48 hours prior to the structure falling through the ice.
Information on buying tickets is available at www.gincc.org or www.negauneelions.com.
