Kingsford sets prices for new residential lots

KINGSFORD — Kingsford City Council has approved a price per acre and construction guidelines for city-owned property on North Pyle Drive.

The price per acre was set at $14,000. City Manager Mike Stelmaszek said average prices for property in the area are $15,000 per acre.

The city last year purchased 3.47 acres for $50,000 using its Land Acquisition Fund. The property, formerly owned by Carol Bergstrom of Green Bay, Wis., will be divided into seven single-family residential lots.

Stelmaszek said the smaller parcels would sell for about $9,380 each and the larger ones for about $13,860.

The council also approved construction guidelines that would require construction to start within a year of purchase and construction to be completed within a year of the start of construction. The minimum home size is 1,450 square feet.

In other business, the council:

— Accepted the resignation of Dan Cram from the city planning commission. He is moving from the city. They will appoint James C. Cain if he is still interested in the position. He was one of two candidates considered at a previous meeting.

— Approved a resolution honoring the local chapter of the American Association of University Women on their 100th anniversary.

— Heard from Stelmaszek that auditor Scott Kenney will be available at the Feb. 1 meeting, if done in person, to go through the audit for the council.
