Three new COVID-19 deaths in Iron County

Iron County has lost another three people due to complications from COVID-19, local health officials reported Monday.

On its Facebook page, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department posted 10 new confirmed cases for Dickinson County and 44 recoveries since its last update Wednesday, while Iron County had seven new confirmed positives and 13 recovered along with the three new deaths.

As has been the DIDHD’s practice for privacy, no additional details were provided on the deaths.

The DIDHD on Monday listed Dickinson County at 2,089 confirmed positives and 229 probable cases, with 2,076 recovered, 67 deaths and 175 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD showed 845 confirmed cases and 64 probables, with 772 recovered, 38 deaths and 99 still active.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Monday added 65 confirmed positives for the two-day period since its last update Saturday: 22 in Houghton County; nine in Marquette County; eight in Delta and Gogebic counties; five in Menominee County; four in Alger County; three in Dickinson County; and two each in Iron, Ontonagon and Chippewa counties. The only new U.P. death in the state statistics came from Houghton County.

In total for the U.P., the MDHHS data site Monday listed Keweenaw County at 102 confirmed cases and 23 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 129 confirmed cases and 73 probable; Schoolcraft County, 226 confirmed cases and 23 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 265 confirmed, 150 probable and one death, two probable; Mackinac County, 274 confirmed cases and 140 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 315 confirmed, 32 probable and 17 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 485 confirmed cases, 90 probable and 30 deaths; Chippewa County, 683 confirmed cases and 998 probable, and 20 deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 815 confirmed cases and 317 probable, 16 confirmed deaths and 26 probable; Iron County, 843 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 35 confirmed deaths and six probable; Menominee County, 1,579 confirmed cases, 253 probable and 34 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 1,959 confirmed cases, 468 probable, 30 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 2,087 confirmed cases and 227 probable, 56 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,605 confirmed cases and 452 probable, 62 confirmed deaths and 18 probable; and Marquette County, 3,382 confirmed cases, 474 probable and 53 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 15,749 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 362 deaths.

The MDHHS on Monday listed 3,011 confirmed new COVID-19 positives in Michigan since Saturday for a total of 551,080. The state added 35 new deaths since Saturday to reach 14,326.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Monday showed nine new virus positives in Vilas County, which had the only change in the area.

The DHS on Monday had Marinette County with 3,861 confirmed cases, 368 probable cases and 58 deaths, one probable death; Vilas County, 1,866 confirmed, 100 probable and 31 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 899 confirmed, 67 probable and 22 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 469 confirmed, 112 probable and 19 deaths, 17 probable; and Florence County, 417 confirmed, 32 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 946 new positives Monday for a total of 533,917 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The state listed eight new deaths Monday to reach 5,699.
