Two more virus deaths reported in Marinette County

Wisconsin state health officials reported two more COVID-19-related deaths in Marinette County, its second day of seeing the virus toll rise.

Marinette County now has recorded 50 deaths attributed to coronavirus complications.

The only new death in the Upper Peninsula came in Houghton County, which also had the most new confirmed cases at 22.

Across the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus data site Wednesday added 100 confirmed positives: 22 in Houghton County; 19 in Marquette County; 16 in Delta County; eight in Menominee County; seven in Alger County; six in Dickinson and Chippewa counties; five in Gogebic County; four in Mackinac County; two in Iron, Baraga and Keweenaw counties; and one in Schoolcraft County.

In total for the U.P., the data site Wednesday listed Keweenaw County at 77 confirmed cases and 16 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 127 confirmed cases and 68 probable; Alger County, 202 confirmed, 132 probable and one death, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 217 confirmed cases and 20 probable, three deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 267 confirmed cases and 124 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 278 confirmed, 31 probable and 15 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 476 confirmed cases, 86 probable and 29 deaths; Chippewa County, 624 confirmed cases and 918 probable, and 13 deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 721 confirmed cases and 300 probable, 16 confirmed deaths and 23 probable; Iron County, 782 confirmed cases and 56 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and five probable; Menominee County, 1,509 confirmed cases, 236 probable and 26 deaths, one probable; Houghton County, 1,658 confirmed cases, 421 probable, 27 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 2,037 confirmed cases and 198 probable, 56 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,528 confirmed cases and 420 probable, 60 confirmed deaths and 18 probable; and Marquette County, 3,200 confirmed cases, 436 probable and 51 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 14,703 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 333 deaths.

The MDHHS on Wednesday reported 4,326 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan for a total of 508,736. The state added 51 new deaths to reach 12,918.

For a second day, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department did not provide an update on local numbers Wednesday.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state’s COVID-19 data site Wednesday showed 15 new confirmed positives in Vilas County, 10 in Marinette County, two in Iron County and one in Florence County.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday had Marinette County with 3,594 confirmed cases, 340 probable cases and 50 deaths; Vilas County, 1,648 confirmed, 67 probable and 21 deaths, two probable deaths; Forest County, 867 confirmed, 62 probable and 22 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 425 confirmed, 110 probable and 18 deaths, 17 probable; and Florence County, 406 confirmed, 26 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 3,406 new positives Wednesday for a total of 494,747 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The state recorded 60 deaths Wednesday to reach 5,039.
