With frosting on top

Much of Dickinson County again had a layer of hoarfrost settle onto trees and other vegetation. Hoarfrost forms when the air is warm enough to have liquid water vapor that settles on solid surfaces still below freezing, creating ice crystals that grow in length as more water vapor becomes frozen. It gives the trees a fuzzy white pelt of hair-like frost. This hoarfrost has been a feature in the region for several days. (Terri Castelaz/Daily News photos)
