Allen to retire as Breitung schools superintendent

CRAIG ALLEN

KINGSFORD — After nearly three decades with Breitung Township Schools, Superintendent Craig Allen has decided to retire.

Allen, 55, will step down June 30.

“It’s a good time to ease out,” Allen said, noting his youngest daughter is set to graduate this year.

Allen has been superintendent for the past 15 years. Before taking the position, he was Kingsford Middle School principal for three years and assistant principal for nine years.

Allen has no immediate plans for his retirement, though he expects he will continue working in some capacity within the education field.

“Nothing in the works right now,” Allen said.

For the moment, Allen is content with the state of the Breitung Township Schools.

“Things are going well in the district,” Allen said, citing finances and facilities as examples. “Things are running on all cylinders.”

Additionally, Allen is proud of the culture the district has cultivated over the years.

“People want to be here,” Allen said, later adding, “I’ve spent the majority of my career at Breitung Township. I feel blessed to have been part of such a great organization for such a long time.”

The school board had a special workshop meeting Friday morning with a search company for Allen’s replacement.
