New virus death in Iron County, seven new positives in Dickinson

Local health officials Monday reported a new coronavirus-related death in Iron County, even as that county showed no new confirmed positives and had less than 30 active cases.

The Dickinson-Iron County Health Department posted Monday on Facebook that Dickinson County had seven new confirmed COVID-19 positives since Thursday and 23 recoveries, while Iron County had eight recoveries along with the one death.

The DIDHD on Monday had Dickinson County at 2,130 confirmed positives and 238 probable cases, with 2,243 recovered, 67 deaths and 58 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD had 866 confirmed cases and 64 probables, with 857 recovered, 46 deaths and 27 still active.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Monday indicated 27 new confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula since Saturday: 11 in Gogebic County; seven in Houghton County; four in Mackinac County; two in Dickinson County; and one each in Iron, Marquette and Chippewa counties.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 16,314 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 382 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Monday had Keweenaw County at 112 confirmed cases and 28 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 132 confirmed cases and 83 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 229 confirmed cases and 28 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 277 confirmed, 156 probable and one death, two probable; Mackinac County, 286 confirmed cases and 151 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 358 confirmed, 52 probable and 19 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 503 confirmed cases, 98 probable and 32 deaths; Chippewa County, 715 confirmed cases and 1,015 probable, and 22 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 865 confirmed cases and 61 probable, 40 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 921 confirmed cases and 338 probable, 19 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,614 confirmed cases, 261 probable and 35 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 2,094 confirmed cases, 518 probable, 32 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Dickinson County, 2,125 confirmed cases and 237 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,640 confirmed cases and 470 probable, 65 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,443 confirmed cases, 493 probable and 54 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS posted 1,484 confirmed new COVID-19 positives in Michigan since Saturday for a total of 581,403. The state added three new deaths over the two-day period to reach 15,362.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Monday had four new cases in Marinette County.

The DHS on Monday had Marinette County with 3,974 confirmed cases, 379 probable cases and 62 deaths, two probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,080 confirmed, 121 probable and 36 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 924 confirmed, 69 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 531 confirmed, 116 probable and 20 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 432 confirmed, 34 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 423 new positives Monday for a total of 559,998 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state had no new deaths for a second straight day Monday to remain at 6,284.
