Dickinson has a dozen new virus cases, Iron a new death

Local health officials Monday reported a new coronavirus-related death in Iron County and 12 new confirmed positives in Dickinson County.

In a Facebook post Monday afternoon, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department also had one new probable COVID-19 positive in Dickinson County since its last update Thursday, along with four recovered cases. Iron County had one new confirmed positive and one probable case, along with the new death.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department on Monday had Dickinson County at 2,171 confirmed positives and 251 probable cases, with 2,301 recovered, 69 deaths and 52 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD had 870 confirmed cases and 65 probables, with 883 recovered, 48 deaths and four active cases.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Monday listed a total of 47 new confirmed cases since its last update Saturday: 11 in Houghton County; 10 in Dickinson County; seven in Chippewa County; six in Marquette County; five in Menominee County; four in Delta County; two in Gogebic County; and one each in Alger, Ontonagon and Mackinac counties; Iron County’s count was reduced by one.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 16,844 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 394 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Monday had Keweenaw County at 122 confirmed cases and 30 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 134 confirmed cases and 108 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 237 confirmed cases and 36 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 283 confirmed, 160 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 304 confirmed cases and 164 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 371 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 511 confirmed cases, 103 probable and 33 deaths; Chippewa County, 774 confirmed cases and 1,071 probable, and 24 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 869 confirmed cases and 61 probable, 42 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 956 confirmed cases and 353 probable, 21 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,640 confirmed cases, 273 probable and 38 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,165 confirmed cases and 249 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 16 probable; Houghton County, 2,220 confirmed cases, 546 probable, 31 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 2,728 confirmed cases and 498 probable, 66 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,530 confirmed cases, 564 probable and 55 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Monday posted 4,801 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Saturday for a total of 629,612. The state Monday added only six new deaths for the two-day period to reach 15,903.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Monday had no changes in confirmed cases or deaths; Mondays usually are slow reporting days in the state coming out of a weekend.

The DHS on Monday had Marinette County with 3,986 confirmed cases, 408 probable cases and 65 deaths, three probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,180 confirmed, 136 probable and 38 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 934 confirmed, 72 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 558 confirmed, 119 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 425 confirmed, 49 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 338 new positives Monday for a total of 572,770 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded no new deaths for a second straight day Monday to remain at 6,576.
