State shows three new virus cases, two deaths in UP

State health data Thursday showed three new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula, two of them in Menominee County, along with two more deaths in the region attributed to the virus.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Thursday also reduced Delta County’s confirmed positives count by one while adding a new death that Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties had reported Wednesday.

In total, the MDHHS on Thursday had the two confirmed COVID-19 positives in Menominee County and one in Chippewa County. The new deaths came in Delta and Houghton counties.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Thursday has had 20,042 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 438 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Thursday had Keweenaw County at 142 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 226 confirmed cases and 254 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 321 confirmed, 195 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 354 confirmed cases and 83 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 421 confirmed, 61 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 455 confirmed cases and 256 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 690 confirmed cases, 125 probable and 37 deaths; Iron County, 983 confirmed cases and 69 probable, 43 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,042 confirmed cases and 362 probable, 23 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,085 confirmed cases and 1,410 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,795 confirmed cases, 327 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,406 confirmed cases and 340 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,528 confirmed cases, 607 probable, 35 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,343 confirmed cases and 713 probable, 76 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,251 confirmed cases, 822 probable and 61 deaths, one probable. State figures are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Thursday posted 301 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 891,615. The state Thursday had 40 new deaths attributed to the virus — including 28 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 19,479.

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had no new confirmed positives.

The DHS on Thursday had Marinette County with 4,232 confirmed cases, 476 probable cases and 67 deaths, six probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,288 confirmed, 147 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 964 confirmed, 79 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 583 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 452 confirmed, 55 probable and 13 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin on Thursday added 165 new positives for a total of 611,439 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state posted 11 new deaths Thursday to reach 7,200.
