Man arrested after Ishpeming standoff

ISHPEMING — A man who reportedly barricaded himself inside his home after police responded to a report of a felonious assault was arrested Sunday on multiple charges, the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post said.

Troopers believed a 33-year-old Ishpeming man had attempted to use a firearm to assault a male and female at a residence on County Road 581 in Ely Township, police said in a news release.

The Ishpeming man then fled to his residence, where he barricaded himself inside and would not cooperate with law enforcement, according to the MSP.

The man surrendered several hours later after the MSP Emergency Support Team, along with its K-9 unit, arrived at the home.

No injuries were reported during the arrest or to the victims from the original incident, police said.

The man was in the Marquette County Jail on two counts of felonious assault, reckless charge of a firearm, carrying a firearm with unlawful intent and carrying a concealed weapon.

No names will be released until after the man is arraigned in court, officials said.

MSP troopers were assisted by Marquette County Sheriff s Office deputies, Ishpeming City Police, the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team and the Ishpeming Township Fire Department.
