State: Nine new virus cases in Dickinson, three in Iron
State data Monday showed nine new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County since Friday and three more cases in Iron County.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Monday listed 87 new confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula since Friday: 28 in Delta County; 17 in Houghton County; 10 in Menominee County; nine in Dickinson County; six in Ontonagon County; four in Marquette County; three in Iron and Gogebic counties; two in Alger, Mackinac and Baraga counties; and one in Schoolcraft County. Chippewa County’s count was reduced by one.
Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 20,681 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 447 deaths. The region has seen a surge in virus activity in recent weeks since the delta variant surfaced in the region in mid-July.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Monday had Keweenaw County at 142 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 230 confirmed cases and 262 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Alger County, 326 confirmed, 200 probable and three deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 365 confirmed cases and 93 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 435 confirmed, 62 probable and 21 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 471 confirmed cases and 260 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 707 confirmed cases, 131 probable and 40 deaths; Iron County, 1,013 confirmed cases and 73 probable, 43 deaths and 10 probable; Gogebic County, 1,122 confirmed cases and 370 probable, 24 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 1,141 confirmed cases and 1,454 probable, and 29 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,857 confirmed cases, 381 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,459 confirmed cases and 375 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,603 confirmed cases, 618 probable, 35 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,513 confirmed cases and 742 probable, 76 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,297 confirmed cases, 841 probable and 64 deaths, one probable. State figures are updated regularly but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Monday had 3,554 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan since Friday, or an average of about 1,185 per day for the three days, for a total to date of 922,687. The state Monday added 19 deaths attributed to the virus — including eight that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 20,030.
The state now provides updated COVID-19 figures on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Monday had five new confirmed positives in Forest County and three in Vilas County; the counts for Marinette and Florence counties were reduced by one.
The DHS COVID-19 data site Monday had Marinette County with 4,325 confirmed cases, 510 probable cases and 68 deaths, seven probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,344 confirmed, 150 probable and 42 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,002 confirmed, 84 probable and 24 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 608 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 460 confirmed, 58 probable and 13 deaths.
Wisconsin has added 2,227 new positives since Friday for a total of 638,571 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state to date. The state had no new deaths to remain at 7,471.
