DIDHD: Dickinson adds 53 new virus cases, Iron 29 more

Local health officials Thursday afternoon reported 53 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County in the past week, along with another virus-related death, while Iron County added 29 cases.

In addition to the new confirmed positives, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department in its Facebook post listed 64 new probable coronavirus cases in Dickinson County and 13 probables in Iron County. Dickinson County also had 12 people now considered recovered from the virus and Iron County one recovered case.

The DIDHD had Dickinson County at 2,558 confirmed positives and 536 probable cases, with 2,732 recovered, 73 deaths and 289 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 1,106 confirmed cases and 96 probables, with 1,036 recovered, 50 deaths and 116 active cases.

The Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday had 27 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 15 adults in intensive care and four on ventilators, according to the DIDHD, citing tracking data.

State numbers for the Upper Peninsula were not available Thursday, as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services updates its COVID-19 data site on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had 19 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, nine in Vilas County, seven in Forest County and two in Iron County.

The DHS COVID-19 data site Thursday had Marinette County with 4,542 confirmed cases, 610 probable cases and 69 deaths, eight probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,432 confirmed, 156 probable and 44 deaths, three probable; Forest County, 1,110 confirmed, 91 probable and 24 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 630 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 470 confirmed, 68 probable and 13 deaths.

Wisconsin added 1,660 new positives Thursday for a total of 675,908 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 31 more virus-related deaths to reach 7,717.
