Foster City man dies after pickup truck-train collision in Vulcan

VULCAN — A 30-year-old Foster City man died Thursday from injuries he received when a train struck the pickup truck he was driving Wednesday afternoon in Vulcan.

Deputies were called to the crash at 4:29 p.m. after an eastbound Canadian National Railway train collided with the southbound Ford Ranger truck at a railroad crossing on Spruce Street near U.S. 2, causing the vehicle to roll onto its roof, according to Dickinson County Undersheriff Scott Metras.

The pickup driver was taken to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital and later transferred to UP Health System-Marquette, where he died as a result of his injuries.

Michigan State Police accident investigators are assisting the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office in investigating the crash. Canadian National Police Service special agents are conducting an independent investigation as well.

Also at the crash site Wednesday were the Norway Police Department, Norway Volunteer Fire Department, Michigan State Police and Integrity Care EMS.
