A very volatile volcano

The Iron Mountain-Kingsford Community Schools North Elementary preschool class is learning about the letter V this week. One of the projects was constructing a volcano by shaping clay around a plastic bottle, then letting it air-dry before painting it. The class put a mixture of orange paint, baking soda and Dawn dish soap in the bottle, then watched as drops of vinegar were added to make it bubble and foam. From left are Camila Hoke, Jackson Wickman, Chloe King, Hudson Gendron and Gage Fayas. Other letter V activities included making paper vases for their mothers and taking a virtual vacation to Disneyworld. Today, they will try an array of different vegetables. (Theresa Proudfit photo)
